Climb Hunt Hike is a Washington based guide company specializing in guided mountaineering hunting and survival adventures around the world. Their mission is to make the outdoors more accessible through boutique experiences, real camaraderie and well guided trips. In an effort to reconnect people with a more primal, liberated way of moving through the world, clients leave with practical outdoor skills, memorable stories, and a renewed sense of responsibility for the natural world.
The ask
To connect with their mission of bringing clients back to their roots, the CHH team wanted to create an online experience that felt nostalgic to early camping days. Picture Yosemite Valley postcards from the 50s and 60s. The faded paper look, grainy texture, and warm natural colors invite you to explore further. Further, there was a larger task to tell a wider story in a compelling and clear manner.
Climb Hunt Hike wanted to provide prospective clients with all the information they needed to prepare for one of their adventures. Trip itineraries, packing and gear lists, skill requirements, and more were included. It was necessary to build an informational hierarchy in order to give users the information they needed without overwhelming them and making them click away.
The Approach
To deliver on the aesthetic, I used illustrations, textures, and color palettes from the brand to bring in elements of nostalgia, while still keeping the overall look clean and easy to navigate. We found a great source for vintage post card images that we used throughout the site and I pulled in some paper texture overlays for section background use. For the contact forms, we used an old postcard image, fitted with postage stamps and a distressed border.
The visual language extended into the user interface with subtle drop shadows and tactile textures. Users can find their relevant information easily on trip pages thanks to tabbed submenus, while that prominent “Book Now” button is always easy to find.
This approach ensures consistency across screens and reinforces brand memory. By maintaining legible typography and accessible contrast, the site remains welcoming to all users, while interactive elements guide exploration. Subtle micro-interactions provide feedback without distracting from the content.
The Result
The result is a cohesive, immersive experience that guides visitors through origin stories, gear essentials, and trip planning. Subtle motion, clear typography, and intuitive navigation reduce friction, converting curiosity into confident inquiries and bookings while honoring the brand’s nostalgic spirit.
