wordpress web design & development

Hiatus Campers is revolutionizing the pop-up truck camper experience with a patented hard-walled folding system and a full suite of camper upgrades and customizations. Their product is lightweight, streamlined, and rugged enough to handle any terrain while allowing owners to maintain the complete functionality of their trucks. With the ability to “Go Your Own Way”, this PNW-built camper is the ultimate choice for adventurous travelers.

The ask

The team at Hiatus originally approached Fresh Lines Creative looking for some customizations to their online order form. The site offered some basic information and an order form that felt clunky and limiting to the many customization options that the Hiatus camper offered. As the company grew, the owners quickly realized that they needed to refresh their site to compete with some of the bigger producers in the industry. The main objective of the new site was to create an ordering system that would allow the user to “build their own rig” and visualize the changes as they made their selections. They also wanted the site to feel more representative of their company culture and highlight their small boutique status in a field of industry giants.

The Approach

We started with Brand Strategy to reassess the values, goals, audience, and persona that the brand had evolved into. Over some cups of coffee and a deep dive into the inner workings of the business, we discovered that the Hiatus customer spans a wide range of demographics but ultimately had one thing in common – a thirst for adventure. I knew we’d want to create a site that reflected this and not only highlighted the camper itself but the possibilities for travel with a Hiatus camper. We wanted the user to start envisioning their life after owning their very own dream rig and looked for any way possible to create that hype and inspiration. A big piece of this was the product customizer.

The “Build Your Rig” Camper Customizer

With thousands of possible configurations, I knew we needed a visual customizer that could handle multiple combinations, different views, pricing add-ons, and lots of conditional logic. I wanted to create an experience that not only felt fun and inspirational for the user but also operated as a fully functioning order system, from which the Hiatus team could gather all the information they needed on each order placed as well as deposit collection.

The Result

The refreshed Hiatus site is exactly what the owners wanted. The site features camper pop-up animations, product spec walkthroughs, customer testimonials, and an immersive product builder with all the bells and whistles. We also worked on SEO and site speed optimization to make sure the site reaches as many potential customers as possible.

The new site has produced a 60% increase in sales and driven over 83,000 users to the site in the six months since launching. I couldn’t be more excited for the future of Hiatus Campers. Check out the Hiatus site and build your own rig, but be warned, you’ll probably want to buy one!

kind words from the client

“I really appreciated the attention to detail and ease of working together. [Katie] first set out to get to know us and our company, which I believe helped our ideas come through more clearly. Previously we hadn’t been asked about our goals, mission, or customers. When the website was finished we felt that it captured what we had imagined. In particular we had a very custom request to create a 3D product builder, which was not an easy task. This addition leveled up our look and works great! She even helped us with other parts of the website we wouldn’t have thought about otherwise, such as optimizing the SEO, updating our website thumbnail, and developing themes.”
